TENET is a PC/104 Ethernet adaptor module. TENET makes
it easy to combine the flexibility of PC/104 with the power of established
networking software. TENET is hardware and software compatible with the
popular NE2000+ Ethernet adaptor making it easy to set up and use with standard
networking software packages. TENET supports the latest 16-bit PC/104 interface
for fast and reliable data transmission.
Network Connection
Three types of interface options are available on the TENET module as standard.
This removes the need for external adaptors and reduces sysyems costs.
10BASE2
TENET supports thin ethernet (this is sometimes called cheapernet). Thin
Ethernet uses coaxial cable and is straight forward to install. A BNC connector
is fitted to TENET.
10BASET
TENET can be used in twisted pair Ethernet networks. Twisted pair cable
is cost effective and simple to install.
10BASE5
TENET also provides an AUI interface which allows easy connection to MAU
tranceivers.
Easy Configuration
The I/0 address, IRQ number and boot EPROM address are user configurable
using a utility supplied by the manufacturer. This makes the configuration
procedure both speedy and reliable.
Software Support
Major software packages including Novell and Windows for Workgroups have
built in support for TENET using the NE2000 drivers. In addition DSP offers
a utilities disk which contains various network drivers and other useful
utilities.
Remote Boot
A 28 pin EPROM socket is provided allowing installation of a boot EPROM
and use TENET as a component in a diskless workstation.
Status LEDs
Up to five status light emitting diodes can be directly driven by the TENET.
These provide status information on TX and RX data, collisions and for twisted
pair installations, a "Good Link" and "wrong polarity"
indication. Current limiting resistors are present on the TENET card, so
the only external components required are the LEDs.

Single rail 5V supply required, 12V also required for AUI operation.

Note: The TENET is not PC/104-compliant due to the BNC
connector overhang. By removing the BNC connector and implementing the RJ45
connector (twisted pair cabling), users can gain PC/104-compliancy. |
