User Selectable Processors
The processor is user selectable depending on power and performance requirements. Choices include 80486 (DX2-66, DX4-100, DX4-120) and Cyrix (5x86-100, 5x86-120). A linear voltage regulator is fitted to provide the 3.3V to 3.45V as required by some processors. The processor must be ordered separately.

PC Compatible
The TC586 is an IBM PC/AT compatible computer. It provides a familiar programming environment allowing the use of popular PC programs and compilers to develop applications. On-board resources include standard PC interrupt and DMA controllers and timers.

DRAM
One standard DIMM socket is provided for a single memory module of 4M, 8M or 16M bytes of DRAM. The module socket has a latching mechanism for robust performance. As standard, the TC586 is supplied without DRAM.

BIOS
PC/AT compatible BIOS installed in Flash memory.

Solid State Disk
1MB of Flash memory is fitted to the TC586 which contains the BIOS and optionally, application code in the form of a solid state disk. The Flash disk can be bootable and can have an integral Flash Filing System for long term reliability and ease of use. It is simple to use as it appears like a small hard disk drive.

Serial I/O
Two fully featured RS232 serial ports are provided (Com1, Com2). Both are 16550 compatible with 16 byte buffers on transmit and receive ports for fast data throughput. One serial port can be factory configured for RS485 operation on volume orders.

Parallel I/O
An enhanced parallel port (EPP) is provided and can be used as a Centronics printer port or for general purpose digital I/O.

Operator Interface
Keyboard and mouse ports are included for input and sound output for an external speaker.

Utility Circuits
Reset control circuitry ensures power fail detection and issues clean reset pulses. The watchdog circuitry can automatically restart the TC586 if the application stalls. An external battery connection is provided for back-up of the on-board calendar clock. A serial EEPROM device stores CMOS set-up parameters permanently, removing the need for external battery back-up.

Development Platforms
The TCDEV development board provides VGA graphics, floppy and IDE disk controllers, standard PC connectors and a PC/104 site for the processor module and I/O modules. The board is mounted over a 3½ inch floppy drive and space is available for a 2½ inch hard disk drive. Also available is the TCPAK586 starter kit which includes the TCDEV, TC586, power supply, utilities and manuals for a plug-and-go system (processor and DRAM is ordered separately).

Order Code
The TC586 module is supplied without processor and without DRAM. To order, specify TC586 module, processor part number and DRAM Module part number.
